Here is the South Paris Collaborative students discussing the health care issue.

What McCain Thinks About Health Care
John McCain thinks affordable health care can be made available to all Americans with out a mandated universal system. One way McCain thinks health care can be available is to expand community health centers and the S-chip program (State Children's Health Insurance Program-that means he will provide health insurance to every child he can), offer tax incentives for the poor people, put health care resources online, put medical malpractice reforms out and promote/increase health savings accounts.
McCain says “I propose that we try a time-honored approach and let the states work on whatever method they find most promising. The federal government can help fund this effort, but in exchange, states should allow Medicaid and SCHIP funds to be used for private insurance and develop methods to augment Medicaid and tax credits for more expensive care. I want to preserve the quality of health care, I want to make it affordable and I want to make it available. I want to give everybody in this room, every family in this room a $5,000 refundable tax credit. And you can take that across state lines and go anyplace in America you want to and get a health insurance policy. And if you got any money left over, then you 'ought to be able to invest in a health savings account.”-Information from- http://glassbooth.org/explore/index/jProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 oxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 oxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 n-mccain/10/health-care/12/

What Obama thinks about Healthcare

Obama will provide affordable, accessible Health Care. There will also be a lower cost of health insurance. Obama thinks that the problem with health care is how much it costs. This is a pledge that Obama had said, "Mandate that all children have health care coverage." Obama and Biden plan provides subsidies (money they give to people to help them pay) to people who can’t pay for their health care. Obama thinks every family should have mandatory child coverage. If Obama becomes president he will stop insurance from over charging doctors. “The time has come for universal health care in America.”

Hot Issue - Health Care
Obama & Biden
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/

They have a plan that strengthens coverage, makes insurance
companies
accountable and guarantees choice of doctor and care
without the
government interfereing.
The plan provides affordable, accessible health care for all Americans,
builds on Bush's health care system, uses existing providers, doctors
and
plans to implement the plan.
But, if you like your current insurance, then nothing will change,
only your costs will lower as much as $2,500 a year.
If you don't have insurance, you will have a choice of new,
affordable healh care opitions.

For a while, the government of the United States of
America has thought of changing health care for the
better. But McCain thinks that we should stop thinking
about a better healh care system and start acting on it.
He says that every american should have health care, not
just the ones that can afford it.Currently, there is 47 million
citizens of the U.S. without health care coverage!! It's to
expensive!!!McCain wants it to be easier for individuales and families to
have healh care. He also says that health care will be easier to
get for the people that need it the most. McCain sounds like
he will DO the job!

Awbrey Park - Room 16

Health care relates to our country because Americans all around the country are struggling to pay for health care.

It is a hot issue because most people can’t afford to pay for health care, so if they get in an sick or injured they are uninsured and unable to pay for doctor visits and other medical expenses.

It’s a hot issue in our area because it is hard to get a job, so people can’t pay for their health care.

Obama:
  • Would require all children under the age of 25
to have an affordable health care plan and
would create an affordable health care
program.
  • Would help employers pay for big emergences
and by doing this it would help lower big costs
for their employers.

McCain:
  • Would like to lower health care costs for all Americans and would offer tax credits to help pay for health care.
  • Would create new ways for health care to be delivered.

DREAMEXTREME - Medford, Oregon

Why is this a hot issue for the nation?

Many people all over the USA cannot afford Health Care, so if Obama or McCain don't do something soon, so many people could die because of prevantable diseases and the lack of basic health services. Unless something changes we will NOT be able to do anything about it.
The reason it's so important is because health care and health insurance are expensive. People that need help and have no health insurance could lose everything because they don't have enough money to pay their hospital bills.
In Oregon, just like the rest of the country, there are a lot of people who have different kinds of cancer, including leukemia, and other health problems like Alzheimer's disease. We need a better health care plan to help these people in need.

Senator McCain's Plan

Senator Obama's Plan

McCain wants all Americans to have access to health care
and he wants a system of health care in which every
one can afford and acquire the treatment and preventative care they need.
The most important part of his plan is to use competition to improve the quality of health insurance
with greater variety to match people's needs, lower prices, and portability.

Obama says the American people are too often offered two extremes: government-run healthcare with higher taxes or letting insurance companies operate without rules.
He wants to find a balance, and to give all Americans
lower cost health insurance so all the people can
have the help they need.

Health care

. Health care is very pricey and some people don’t have it because it is very had to get.
If you don’t have health care and you get ill you won’t be able to work to get paid to get your medicine and checkups.
. Health care is very useful because if you get hurt and don’t have health care you will have to pay a lot of money for your doctor bill and plus more because of checkups and other injuries.
. How would you change health care if you were president?? This is what Mccain and Obama are going to do...

obama: want’s to get higher amount of coverage for health care and says it’s a basic write for all people and requires all children to have health care.
Mccain:want’s to lower health care costs by increasing competition among drug companies and insurance companies.
